Accessibility Statement

The London Criminal Justice Partnership Youth Justice website has been built with the intention of making the content accessible to the widest range of visitors, regardless of disability or impairment. This has been achieved by adhering to best practices, such as compliance with W3C standards and by careful reference to the standards set out by the Office of the E-Envoy.

This official accessibility statement records the main steps that the LCJP has taken to accommodate the needs of disabled people.

Access Keys

Some browsers support jumping to specific links by typing keys defined on the website. In Internet Explorer, you can press the Alt key and the access key together, followed by the Enter (return) key on your keyboard. For example, to navigate to the sitemap you would press the Alt key and the 3 key, and then the Enter key. In Firefox, you press the Shift, Alt and the access key together. On a Macintosh, you can press the ctrl key and the access key.

The pages on this website adhere to the recommended UK Government access keys standard:

S - Skip navigation - goes straight to the content on the current page
0 - displays this page, including the Access key details
1 - displays the Home page
2 - displays the News page
3 - displays the Sitemap page
9 - displays Contact Us information

Standards compliance

The pages on this website have been built to comply with Priority AA standard of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines.

The pages on this site have been tested, where test results have indicated either a warning or a failure to comply with standards these issues have been addressed, and decisions made individually regarding what we consider to be best practice.

All pages on this site validate as XHTML 1.0 Transitional.

All pages on this site use structured semantic markup. H1 tags are used for main titles, H2, H3 and H4 tags for subtitles.

JAWS users can skip to the next heading within pages on this website by pressing ALTINSERT1, ALTINSERT2, ALTINSERT3 or ALTINSERT4.

Navigation aids

All pages contain a link to the home page and the menu system has been constructed in a consistent fashion throughout the website.

Links

Many links have title attributes, which describe the link in greater detail. Links are written to make sense out of context.

Images

All content images used in this site include descriptive ALT attributes. Purely decorative graphics include null ALT attributes. Complex images include LONGDESC attributes or inline descriptions to explain the significance of each image to non-visual readers.

Visual design

This site uses cascading style sheets for visual layout. If your browser or browsing device does not support stylesheets, the content of each page is still readable.

Style Switcher

The Style Switcher enables users with visual impairment to view the content on this website more easily.

The Style Switcher buttons at the top of every page change the website's 'look and feel':

  • The first button (with the lower-case 'a') keeps text the usual size and colour
  • The second button (with the capital 'A') makes text larger and with high contrast colours
  • The third button (with the capital 'A' and a blue background) shows text larger, as white text on a blue background

The Style Switcher needs JavaScript to be 'enabled' on your browser. If you've arrived at this page, and the page style has not changed, it's probable that you do not have JavaScript 'enabled'.

The option to enable or disable JavaScript can usually be found in your web browser's 'Options' or 'Preferences' panel.

Fonts

If you wish to keep the same look and feel, the text can still be enlarged to 200%. This site uses relative text sizes, compatible with the user-specified text size option in visual browsers.

The most common visual browser is Microsoft Internet Explorer and we have provided the following description of how to change your font size display in Internet Explorer version 7:

Select 'View' from the top pull down menu options. Select 'Text Size' from the View menu options. Select the text size that you prefer from the list of five available options. Many website visitors with impaired vision need to increase the font size from the default medium setting to 'larger' or 'largest'. You should be aware that although this website has been built to accommodate changed text sizes, this is not the case with all websites.

Some visually impaired web users need to take further steps to make websites visible. Internet Explorer and many other browsers enable you to change other styling of the websites that you view. This will give you control of the appearance of the text in websites. You can find out more about specifying your own options by using the Help function within your web browser software.
